Since Alan Shepard’s first flight in 1961 the United States has pioneered the human race with a string of historical manned space missions. Now with the construction of the International Space Station underway a new era of cooperation has begun.On December 21st 1998 Apogee Books (an imprint of CG Publishing Inc) began an ambitious series celebrating the landmarks in human space exploration beginning with the Apollo Program. This book was available in time for the 30th anniversary celebrations of the historic first flight to lunar orbit held at the Chicago Museum Of Science & Industry.
